Located on Rruga Myslym Shyri in Tirana, the Independence Memorial is a significant landmark symbolizing Albania's declaration of independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1912. Inaugurated on November 28, 2012, on the 100th anniversary of this pivotal event, the monument serves as a reminder of the nation's journey from isolation to freedom.The memorial's design, created by Visar Obrija and Kai Roman Kiklas, was inspired by the traditional Albanian house, costing approximately 355,000 euros. It features an open structure composed of two parts of a cube, allowing visitors to walk through freely. The design represents Albania's openness and resistance during difficult times. Laser-drawn elements on the inner sides depict the Declaration of Independence, the national double-headed eagle, and human portraits.The surrounding area is a lively plaza where locals gather, and events celebrate national pride. Nearby attractions include local cafes and shops showcasing Albanian culture. The memorial is a vital part of Tirana, connecting the past and present of the city.

    Take a bus to the city center near Skanderbeg Square. From there, walk along Rruga Myslym Shyri to reach the Independence Memorial. A bus ticket costs 40 Lek. Alternatively, from the Tirana Bus Terminal, take local bus line 13 or 14 to Rruga Myslym Shyri. The bus fare is around 40 Lek.
