Discover more about Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës

Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës, or the Tomb of Kapllan Pasha, stands as a silent witness to Tirana's Ottoman past. Constructed in the early 19th century (1817) , this monument is dedicated to Kapllan Pasha, who governed Tirana during that era. The tomb is recognized as a Cultural Monument of the first category by the Albanian government. Originally, the tomb was part of a larger cemetery complex associated with Tirana's first mosque. This complex included six similar monumental tombs, but they were destroyed during World War II, leaving Kapllan Pasha's tomb as the sole survivor. The tomb's octagonal shape is a distinctive architectural feature, constructed with carved stones. Stone columns with plant-motif capitals support the arches, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship of the period. Kapllan Pasha's remains were eventually moved to Istanbul, Turkey. Today, Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës stands in contrast to the modern buildings surrounding it, serving as a reminder of Tirana's layered history. Restoration efforts by the Municipality of Tirana ensure its preservation for future generations. The tomb is an open structure without a roof or dome.
