Its strategic position, approximately 329 meters above sea level, provided expansive views of the Erzen River valley, surrounding hills, and access routes to Tirana.Rebuilt in the 15th century, Petrelë Castle played a vital role in Skanderbeg's resistance against the Ottoman Empire. It functioned as a signaling post, communicating with Krujë Castle via fires to warn of approaching invaders. During this period, the castle was commanded by Mamica Kastrioti, Skanderbeg's sister, highlighting its importance in the Albanian defense strategy.Today, Petrelë Castle is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Visitors can explore the castle grounds, enjoy a meal at the restaurant housed within its walls, and soak in the stunning panoramic views. Legend says that a beautiful girl named Elena once lived in the castle and had a forbidden love with a soldier named Gjergj. From Tirana, take a bus from the central bus station towards Elbasan or Petrelë. Buses depart approximately every 30 minutes, and the journey to Petrelë takes around 45 minutes. From the Petrelë bus stop, you can walk or take a local taxi to Petrelë Castle, which is a short distance away. A local taxi may cost around 300-500 Lekë.

Parking costs may vary, but expect to pay around 200-300 Lekë per hour.
