Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës: A Silent Witness to Tirana's Past

Located in the center of Tirana, the Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës stands as a poignant reminder of the city's Ottoman past. This small, yet historically significant, structure is the only surviving türbe from a complex of six that once surrounded the Sylejman Pasha Mosque, Tirana's first mosque, which was destroyed during World War II. Built in 1817, the year of Kapllan Pasha's death, the tomb marks the burial place of Kapllan Pasha, an Ottoman administrator of Tirana. The octagonal structure, approximately four meters in height, features carved stones and stone columns with plant decor. Although Kapllan Pasha's remains were later exhumed and reburied in Istanbul, the monument remains a cultural landmark, representing an important piece of Tirana's history.
