Çobo Winery: A Taste of Albanian Tradition

Çobo Winery, located in Ura Vajgurore near the historic city of Berat, offers a delightful immersion into Albania's rich winemaking traditions. The Çobo family has been preserving the best of the land and vineyards for about a century. The winery is scenically nestled at the base of Mt. Tomorri in the rolling hills that surround the city of Berat. Production stopped in 1945 when private wine production was banned by the Communist party but started again. Today, the winery is known for its commitment to quality, producing a variety of exquisite wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. Çobo is specialized mainly in the Shesh i Zi and Shesh i Bardhe varieties. Among its popular wines, the following can be mentioned: “E bardha e Beratit” and the sparkling “Shendeverë”. A tour of the facility provides a comprehensive view of the method of wine making and detailed explanations, punctuated with contrasting sentimental and humorous vignettes that create a vivid impression of the family's history and the roots of its wines. After the tour of the grounds, guests are invited to share a glass of wine and exchange stories with a member of the Çobo family while enjoying a variety of homemade Albanian cheeses and locally-grown olives.
