Another theory says that the village was founded when some Lacedaemonians, en route to southern Italy, were caught in a storm and settled on the coast where Palaiokastritsa is now. Pirate attacks forced them to move to the mountain above Palaiokastritsa and establish the present-day village of Lakones.
