Kalaja e Lëkurësit (Lëkurësit Castle) is perched on a strategic hill overlooking Sarandë, offering breathtaking views of the town, the Ionian Sea, and the island of Corfu. Built in 1537 by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, the castle was constructed to protect the region from Venetian invasion and control the harbor of Saranda and the road to Butrint. The castle's almost square shape features two round towers at opposite corners. The best-preserved sections are the southern and eastern sides. Within the castle walls, a restaurant offers traditional Albanian cuisine with stunning vistas. The site sometimes hosts traditional folk music and dance, providing a glimpse into Albanian culture. Visitors can explore the ruins of the old village of Lëkurës, which was once larger than Saranda. The village was abandoned in 1878 after being raided in the late 18th century.
