The Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës, or Tomb of Kapllan Pasha, is a significant historical landmark located in the center of Tirana. Constructed in the early 19th century, around 1817, this Muslim türbe (tomb) is a remnant of the city's Ottoman past. It was originally part of a larger complex associated with Tirana's first mosque, the Sylejman Pasha Mosque, which was destroyed during World War II. Kapllan Pasha was an Ottoman administrator of Tirana who died in 1819. The tomb was built to mark his burial place. The complex originally included six similar monumental tombs, but only Kapllan Pasha's tomb survived the destruction of the war. In a notable event, Kapllan Pasha's remains were later moved to Istanbul, Turkey. The tyrbe features a distinctive octagonal shape, constructed with carved stones. Eight stone columns rest on stone bases, with capitals adorned with plant motifs. The structure stands approximately 4 meters high and showcases the intricate craftsmanship of the era. The elegance of the arcades and the detailed stonework are particularly noteworthy.Today, the Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës stands in contrast to the modern buildings surrounding it, offering a glimpse into Albania's history under Ottoman rule. It serves as a reminder of Tirana's layered history and the diverse cultural influences that have shaped the city.
