The Cloud: Tirana's Modern Art Installation

The Cloud, or 'Reja' as the locals call it, is a unique and modern art installation located in front of the National Gallery of Arts in Tirana, Albania. Designed by renowned Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, this eye-catching structure has become a symbol of Tirana's modern identity since its arrival in 2016. Originally commissioned for the Serpentine Gallery in London in 2013, it was later moved to Tirana, offering a fresh perspective on public space and art. The Cloud's delicate, three-dimensional structure is crafted from white steel rods, forming a semi-transparent, irregular canopy that resembles a cloud. The structure covers 541 square meters and reaches a height of up to 7 meters. Visitors are invited to walk through and under the structure, experiencing an immersive environment that blurs the lines between art and public space. The stepped terraces provide seating areas, making it a flexible venue for exhibitions, workshops, and performances. During the warm summer evenings, The Cloud transforms into an atmospheric stage for musicians and theater performances, adding to Tirana's vibrant cultural scene.
