    Discover more about Gjipe Beach

Gjipe Beach is a hidden gem on the Albanian Riviera, celebrated for its natural beauty and tranquil setting. Located between the coastal towns of Dhermi and Himare, the beach is uniquely positioned at the mouth of the Gjipe Canyon, offering a dramatic backdrop of towering cliffs and lush greenery. The beach itself is a mix of pebbles and sand, lapped by the clear turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea. Gjipe's appeal lies in its relative seclusion and untouched character. Unlike more accessible beaches, Gjipe requires a bit of effort to reach, which helps preserve its peaceful atmosphere. The most common access is via a scenic 20-45 minute hike from a parking area off the main road, or by boat from nearby coastal towns. Historically, the area around Gjipe has been inhabited since ancient times, with traces of Illyrian settlements and Greek influences. The canyon and cliffs provided refuge and protection over the centuries. More recently, during Albania's communist era, the country's isolation helped maintain Gjipe's natural integrity. Evidence of this era can be seen in the concrete bunkers along the trail to the beach, one of which has been repurposed into a rustic beach bar. Today, Gjipe Beach offers a blend of relaxation and adventure. Visitors can swim, sunbathe, snorkel, and explore sea caves. The Gjipe Canyon is also a draw, with opportunities for hiking and rock climbing. Camping is permitted on the beach, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.
