From the Casbah, Martyrs' Square is easily accessible by foot. Head northeast, following the main streets towards the waterfront. The square is a central landmark and is well-signposted. The walk is approximately 10-15 minutes, allowing you to soak in the atmosphere of the surrounding area. No costs involved.
Public Transport
The Algiers Metro has a station directly at Martyrs' Square (Place des Martyrs). Take the metro to Place des Martyrs station. The Algiers suburban rail and tram also connect to the metro. A single metro ticket costs approximately 50 DZD. Alternatively, several bus lines operated by ETUSA serve the square. Bus fares start at 20 DZD for urban routes.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available throughout Algiers. Hail a taxi from a nearby location, such as the Grande Poste or the Jardin d'Essai du Hamma. Agree on a fare with the driver before starting your journey, as taximeters are not always used. A short taxi ride to Martyrs' Square should cost approximately 290-300 DZD. Be aware that there may be surcharges after dark.
