Constructed between 1826 and 1835 during the rule of Ahmed Bey ben Mohamed Chérif, the palace reflects a blend of Moorish and Ottoman styles. Ahmed Bey commissioned a Genovese engineer, Chiavino, along with artists Al-Jabari and Al-Khatabi, for its architectural design. The palace comprises three connected suites supported by 266 marble columns, with three courtyards and two marble fountains. The walls display over 2,000 square meters of paintings depicting Ahmed Bey's travels through Alexandria, Tripoli, and Istanbul. There are 540 cedar wood doors with detailed inscriptions and engravings. The palace served as the French military headquarters after the fall of Constantine in 1837. Today, Elbey Palace functions as a museum of arts and popular traditions, offering visitors a glimpse into the life and times of Ahmed Bey and Ottoman Algeria.
