Constructed in 1730 AD during the Ottoman rule, under the reign of Bey Hussein, it was originally named Souk Al-Ghazal Mosque, which translates to 'spinning market mosque'. This name is derived from the adjacent market where wool was traded and prepared for weaving.The mosque's architecture reflects Ottoman influences. The rectangular structure merges with the Ahmed Bey Palace on its northern and western facades. The mosque features two main entrances on its southern side, accessible by stone steps. Inside, visitors can admire the knotted windows adorned with stucco decorations, marble columns, and a wooden pulpit.During the French occupation of Algeria in the 19th century, the mosque was converted into a cathedral. However, after Algeria gained independence in 1962, it was restored to its original function as a mosque and is now known as El Bey Mosque.
