The Monument aux Morts, also known as the Monument to the Dead, is a significant historical site in Constantine, Algeria. Located in the heart of the city, this iconic monument pays tribute to the Algerian soldiers who lost their lives during World War I. The monument stands tall at the entrance of the city's suspension bridge, providing visitors with a stunning panoramic view of Constantine. Designed by French architect Paul Gasq and inaugurated in 1914, it consists of a central obelisk surrounded by sculptures depicting soldiers in various poses of mourning. The first stone was laid on November 18, 1918, and the monument was inaugurated on May 7, 1930. More than 800 soldiers from Constantine, of Muslim, Christian, and Jewish faith, have their names engraved on bronze plaques. At the top of the arch stands a statue of Victory by the sculptor Ebstein, a reproduction of the Roman statue Victory of Constantine. In front of the monument, a semi-circular terrace offers a panoramic view of the Rhumel valley.
