Cascades Kefrida: A Refreshing Algerian Oasis

Cascades Kefrida, also known as the Kefrida Waterfalls, is a captivating natural attraction located near the village of Ait Idriss, in the commune of Taskriout, within the wilaya of Béjaïa, Algeria. The falls are approximately 55 meters in total height, making them among the highest in Algeria. The name 'Kefrida' derives from the Latin 'Aquae Frigidae,' meaning 'fresh spring', a nod to the refreshing waters. The cascades are formed by waters originating from Tala Kefrida, about 800 meters away, flowing over three distinct falls. The most accessible and visited fall is near the RN9 highway, connecting Béjaïa and Sétif. This location is nestled in the Babors mountain range. Visitors can explore trails through lush vegetation, offering opportunities for hiking and wildlife observation. The falls pour into a circular basin, about 20 meters in diameter, surrounded by rocky slopes covered in greenery. The cool, calm atmosphere attracts those looking to swim, picnic, and relax. The sound of the water, sunlight on the falls, and fresh air create an immersive experience. Historically, the site was known to the Romans, who appreciated its fresh water source. Today, local artists display their crafts along the road to the falls, selling traditional items, pottery, and seasonal fruits.
