The Pacha Mosque, also known as Hassan Pasha Mosque, is a prominent historical and religious site in Oran, Algeria. Constructed in 1796 during the reign of Bey Mohamed El-Kebir, it was commissioned by Baba Hassan, the Pacha of Algiers, who contributed funds from the redemption of Christian captives. The mosque is dedicated to Hassan Pacha. The mosque's architecture reflects a blend of Moorish and Ottoman styles. A notable feature is its towering minaret, which exhibits an octagonal base and is adorned with ceramic tiles. The mosque also features a courtyard with arches supported by small columns and a fountain sheltered under a domed pavilion. The prayer hall is adorned with geometric patterns and calligraphy. Throughout its history, the Pacha Mosque has undergone several transformations. During the French occupation of Oran, it was briefly used as a French military billet before being restored to its original purpose as a mosque in 1833. Later, it underwent restoration under the orders of Napoleon III. In 2007, the U.S. government contributed to its renovation.
