Overview
Stade El Hamri, also known as Ahmed Zabana Stadium, stands as a testament to Oran's vibrant sporting culture. Built in 1955 and inaugurated in 1957, it was once the largest stadium in Africa, holding up to 40,000 spectators. The stadium has undergone several renovations, including a significant upgrade in 2008 to accommodate rugby, featuring a fifth-generation artificial turf.Originally named Parc Municipal des Sports Henri Fouquès-Duparc, it was later renamed Stade Municipal after Algeria's independence. In 1992, it was dedicated to Ahmed Zabana, an Algerian revolutionary hero. The stadium's architecture is distinctive, resembling the letter 'D' when viewed from above. Today, Stade El Hamri continues to host local football matches, especially those of its resident team, MC Oran. The atmosphere during games is electric, with passionate fans creating an unforgettable experience. Beyond sports, the stadium serves as a community hub, hosting various events and reflecting the social fabric of Oran.
