From Algiers city center, begin at Place des Martyrs. Take bus number 29 towards El Madania and disembark at the Martyrs Memorial stop, which is directly in front of the memorial. The bus fare is approximately 50 DZD. Alternatively, take the Algiers Metro Line 1 to Place des Martyrs station, then transfer to bus 29.

From anywhere in Algiers, hail a taxi and ask to be taken to 'Martyrs Memorial' (مَذْهَاب الشُّهَدَاء) in El Madania. Ensure the driver uses a meter or negotiate the fare beforehand. A typical taxi ride from central Algiers should cost between 200 and 400 DZD, depending on traffic.

The Martyrs Memorial, locally known as Maqam Echahid, is a towering monument dedicated to the Algerians who lost their lives during the Algerian War of Independence (1954-1962). Inaugurated in 1982 on the 20th anniversary of Algeria's independence, it has become a symbol of national pride and resilience.The memorial's design, created by Algerian artist Bachir Yellès, features three stylized concrete palm leaves that rise 92 meters (302 feet) high, joining mid-height. These leaves represent the three revolutions of Algeria: industrial, agrarian, and cultural. At the base of each leaf stands a statue of a soldier, symbolizing different stages of the war for independence. Beneath the monument lies a crypt, an amphitheater, and the National Museum of El Mujahid, offering further insights into Algeria's fight for freedom.Located on a hill in the El Madania district, the Martyrs Memorial offers breathtaking panoramic views of Algiers and the Bay of Algiers. The surrounding esplanade is a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
