    The Martyrs Memorial, known locally as Maqam Echahid, is a towering monument dedicated to the Algerian War of Independence martyrs. Inaugurated on July 5, 1982, the 20th anniversary of Algeria's independence, it symbolizes the nation's resilience and pride.The monument, designed by Algerian architect Bachir Yellès, rises 92 meters (302 feet) high. It consists of three stylized concrete palm leaves that join mid-height, sheltering the "Eternal Flame". Each palm leaf features a statue of a soldier at its base, representing the three stages of Algeria's struggle: colonialism, revolution, and post-independence.Located on a hill in the El Madania district, the Martyrs Memorial offers panoramic views of Algiers and the Mediterranean Sea. The surrounding area includes a lush park, the Museum of the Mujahid, a crypt, and an amphitheater. The Museum of the Mujahid displays artifacts and exhibits related to the war of independence.
