Hamma Botanical Garden: Algiers' Green Oasis

The Hamma Botanical Garden, also known as Jardin d'Essai du Hamma, is a verdant escape in the heart of Algiers. Founded in 1832 by the French colonial authorities, the garden initially served as a test site for acclimatizing plant species from around the world. Today, it has transformed into a 32-hectare oasis showcasing over 1,200 plant species from five continents.Visitors can explore various themed sections, including a French garden designed with classical symmetry, an English garden featuring a tranquil pond with Japanese carp, and an experimental zone with greenhouses and diverse plant collections. The garden also houses a small zoo, adding to its appeal for families. The garden's rich history includes its role in introducing plant species like the date palm and eucalyptus to Algeria.
