Driving
From Pago Pago, drive towards the village of Fagasa if you intend to hike the Mount 'Alava Trail, or towards Vatia if you intend to hike the Mount 'Alava Adventure Trail. For the Mount 'Alava Trail, follow Route 001 and then Route 005 to Fagasa Pass. Limited parking is available at the trailhead. For the Mount 'Alava Adventure Trail, follow Route 006 to Vatia. Be aware that the road to Vatia is narrow and winding. There are no parking fees.
Public Transport
Local 'aiga' buses are a colorful and affordable way to get around Tutuila. From the Fagatogo Market in Pago Pago, take a bus heading towards Fagasa or Vatia, depending on your chosen trail. Bus fares range from $0.50 to $2.50, but schedules are not fixed, so allow for flexibility. From the bus drop-off point, follow local signs or ask for directions to the trailhead.

Taxis are available throughout Tutuila. A taxi from Pago Pago to Fagasa Pass or Vatia will cost approximately $20-$30, depending on the distance and traffic.
