Pola Island, a jewel of American Samoa, stands as a testament to the raw beauty and volcanic origins of the South Pacific. This rugged, sharply sculpted basalt outcrop is a prominent feature of the National Park of American Samoa, drawing visitors with its dramatic cliffs and verdant, jungle-draped headlands. Erosion by the sea has created stunning cliffs and sea arches in the rocks of Pola Island. The island's steep cliffs, rising to 394 feet, serve as a crucial nesting site for various seabird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. Red-footed boobies, in particular, find a primary nesting location here.
