Discover more about Casa Cristo

Step back in time at Casa Cristo, a meticulously preserved ethnographic museum in the heart of Encamp. This humble, three-story house offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of a working-class Andorran family between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Built in the late 18th century, Casa Cristo maintains its original layout, showcasing how space was adapted for a narrow plot. Wander through the rooms and discover a way of life defined by simplicity and dedication to labor. The house features a cellar for tool storage, a combined kitchen and dining area, modest bedrooms, and an upper room used for work and celebrations. Examine the details that reveal the family's daily life, from the slab sink and the secret drawer for hiding money to the centennial christening gown passed down through generations. These elements reflect both the austerity and dignity of the family's existence. The house was inhabited until 1947 when the last residents moved to France. In 1995, the Comú of Encamp (city hall) purchased and restored the house, opening it as a museum in 2000. Casa Cristo offers guided tours in Catalan, Spanish, French, and English, providing insights into the family's history and the cultural context of the time. The museum is included on route four of the Andorra Tourist Bus during the summer season.
