Discover more about Cal Pal

Cal Pal, located in the charming village of La Cortinada, is more than just a museum; it's a journey through Andorran history and culture. This stately home, dating back to 1347, began as an inn owned by Bernat Escoter and his mother. In 1435, it was donated to Joan Pal d'Ordino, becoming the residence of the Pal family. Over the centuries, it evolved, reflecting the architectural styles of different periods. In the 17th century, the house passed to the Torres family and was eventually sold in 1955 to Serafí Reig Ribó. The last resident, Antoni Torres Armengol, known as "El Pal," died in 1956. The house reopened as a socio-cultural space in October 2018, aiming to foster reflection on Andorran identity, origins, and heritage. Cal Pal stands as one of the most classic examples of Andorran vernacular architecture. Extensions in the 16th and 19th centuries added unique features like a pigeon house and covered galleries. The north-east façade displays striking carvings of human faces on the roof-beam ends. Today, Cal Pal hosts exhibitions and guided tours that delve into Andorra's cultural and natural heritage. It serves as a venue for reflections on Andorran identity, offering visitors a chance to connect with the history of this unique location. The museum is located beside the path from El Vilar to Sobirà bridge.
