Driving
To reach Puigmal by car, a common starting point is from the French side, near the town of Err. From Bourg-Madame, take the N116 towards Saillagouse. Look for a detour to the old Puigmal ski resort and follow the paved road for 11 km to the last car park, which serves as a trailhead. Be aware that the access road can be narrow and may be closed from 10 PM to 6 AM. Parking is free. From Barcelona, the drive to Puigmal is approximately 1.5 hours , costing around €23-€35 in tolls and fuel.
Public Transport
For those using public transport, you can take a train from Barcelona to Ribes de Freser. From Ribes de Freser, take the Cremallera rack railway to Vall de Núria, a mountain resort. From Vall de Núria, multiple hiking trails lead to the summit of Puigmal. A return ticket on the Cremallera costs approximately €33.50. Alternatively, a bus from Perpignan, France to Err is available, with three services a day. From Err, you would need to hike to Puigmal, or take a taxi. The bus from Perpignan to Err takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
