Getting There

  • Walking

The most common way to reach Refugi de l'Illa is by hiking. A popular route starts from Escaldes-Engordany, following the GR7 trail through the Madriu Valley. This hike typically takes around 4-5 hours. Ensure you have proper hiking gear and check trail conditions before setting out. Note that this is a challenging hike with significant elevation gain. Other trails connect from various points, including the Les Pardines-Refugi de l'Illa Trail, starting from the Les Pardines car park on the CS-220 road.

  • Public Transport

While there's no direct public transport to the refuge itself, you can take a bus to Encamp or Escaldes-Engordany, which are common starting points for hikes into the Madriu Valley. • Taxi

Taxis can take you to the edge of the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, but not directly to the refuge, as vehicle access is restricted. A taxi from Andorra la Vella to a trailhead near the valley (e.g., near the Engolasters lake access point) will cost approximately €23-€29. From there, you will need to hike to the refuge. This option shortens the overall journey but still requires a significant hike.
