Farga Rossell: Andorra's Iron Heritage

Farga Rossell, officially known as the Iron Interpretation Centre, is a captivating museum in La Massana, Andorra, that showcases the country's ironworking heritage. The museum is housed in a restored forge that operated from 1842 to 1876, offering visitors a glimpse into Andorra's pre-industrial past.Inside, immersive audio-visual presentations recreate the atmosphere of a 19th-century forge, engaging the senses with sights, sounds, and even smells. Guided tours, available in multiple languages, provide a comprehensive understanding of the iron-making process, including a demonstration of the hydraulic forge-hammer, known as the martinet. Authentic exhibits, such as the trompe (a water-driven blowpipe) and a traditional iron-smelting oven, further enhance the experience.Farga Rossell is part of Andorra's Iron Route, a cultural heritage trail connecting the forge with nearby mines and other historical forges in the Pyrenees.
