Discover more about Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós

Nestled in the village of Anyós, in the parish of La Massana, the Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós stands as a testament to Andorra's Romanesque heritage. Constructed in the 12th century, this small church has undergone several renovations, particularly in the 16th century, resulting in a blend of architectural styles. Originally built in the Romanesque style, the church's apse and north wall remain as the primary original structures. Over the centuries, the church has been expanded, with the south and west walls being completely demolished and the nave extended. The bell tower, uniquely positioned in the middle of the roof, is a distinctive feature. Inside, visitors can admire a 13th-century Franco-Gothic depiction of the Last Supper, surrounded by 16th-century paintings illustrating the passage of souls by St. Michael and scenes from the life of St. Christopher, the church's patron saint. Although the original Romanesque murals were sold in the early 20th century, the remaining Gothic and Baroque paintings offer a rich artistic experience. Perched on a hill, the church offers panoramic views of the La Massana valley, including the villages of Sispony, l'Aldosa, and Ordino. As St. Christopher is the patron saint of drivers, a special blessing of vehicles takes place at the church every July 10th, a tradition recognized as a cultural event of interest.
