Discover more about Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós

The Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós, a Romanesque church in Anyós, La Massana, offers visitors a glimpse into Andorra's rich cultural and religious heritage. Constructed in the 12th century, the church has undergone several transformations, yet it retains its original Romanesque essence. Its location on a hill provides panoramic views of the valley, encompassing the villages of Sispony, La Massana, and Ordino. Inside, the church showcases a blend of artistic styles from different eras. While the original Romanesque murals were removed in the early 20th century, a 13th-century Franco-Gothic depiction of the Last Supper and 16th-century paintings, including scenes from the life of Saint Christopher and the archangel Michael weighing souls, now adorn the interior. A 16th-century altarpiece further enriches the church's artistic tapestry. Dedicated to Saint Christopher, the patron saint of drivers and travelers, the church holds a special blessing ceremony for vehicles every year on July 10th, a festivity recognized for its cultural significance. The church is small, with a nave of just over 5 meters long and 4 meters wide, with walls 0.85 meters thick. The south and west walls were demolished and the nave was expanded. The apse and north wall are mostly original.
