Discover more about Pont de la Margineda

The Pont de la Margineda stands as a testament to Andorra's enduring history and architectural prowess. Constructed in the late 15th century, around 1487, this medieval bridge is the oldest in the country, a graceful survivor of floods that claimed other historic crossings. Located in Santa Coloma, in the Andorra la Vella Parish, the bridge was a vital part of the Royal Road that once connected Sant Julià de Lòria with Andorra la Vella. The bridge's design showcases a single, elegant semicircular arch, with a span of 9.20 meters. Reaching a height of over 9 meters and a length of 33 meters, the bridge is made of granite walls and pumice arch stones, chosen to reduce the structure's overall weight. This delicate balance of lightness and form has allowed the Pont de la Margineda to withstand the test of time. In 2003, the Pont de la Margineda was declared a Property of Cultural Interest, recognizing its significance to Andorra's cultural heritage. Adjacent to the bridge stands a modern sculpture by Andreu Alfaro, commemorating the first Congress of Catalan Language and Literature, symbolizing the connection between Andorra's past and present. A small parking area is available near the bridge, making it easily accessible for visitors.
