Grandvalira stands as a testament to Andorra's commitment to world-class winter sports. Formed in 2003 through the union of Pas de la Casa-Grau Roig and Soldeu-El Tarter, it has become the largest ski resort in the Pyrenees. With over 210 kilometers of skiable terrain, Grandvalira encompasses seven distinct sectors: Encamp, Canillo, El Tarter, Soldeu, Grau Roig, Pas de la Casa and Peretol. Each sector offers unique characteristics and attractions, ensuring an ideal destination for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. El Tarter, known as one of the more dynamic sectors, features the Snowpark El Tarter, boasting the longest line of modules in the Pyrenees and one of the longest in Europe. Grandvalira's history began in 1956 with the installation of the first ski lift in Pas de la Casa, powered by a lorry engine. Since then, the resort has grown to include state-of-the-art facilities, guaranteeing snow coverage for over 60% of the skiable area and providing excellent ski and snowboard schools. The resort's high altitude, ranging from 1,710 to 2,640 meters, ensures optimal snow conditions from December through April. Beyond skiing and snowboarding, Grandvalira offers a wide range of activities, including snowshoeing, ski mountaineering, and family-friendly options like the Mon(t) Magic Canillo. The resort has also hosted several world-class sporting events, including the Women's Ski World Cup in 2012 and the World Cup Finals in 2019 and 2023, solidifying its reputation as a premier winter sports destination.
