Discover more about Pont de la Margineda

The Pont de la Margineda, gracefully arching over the Gran Valira River, is a testament to Andorra's rich history and architectural heritage. Constructed in the late 15th century, around 1487, this medieval bridge served as a vital link on the Royal Road, the primary route between Sant Julià de Lòria and Andorra la Vella. Registered as a Cultural Heritage site of Andorra, the bridge is located near the village of La Margineda, part of the Andorra la Vella Parish. Its design features a single, semi-circular arch with a span of 9.2 meters. The bridge stretches 33 meters in length and reaches a height of over 9 meters, making it the largest medieval bridge still standing in Andorra. The archstones are made of pumice to keep the structure light, while the walls are made of granite. Visitors can walk across the bridge and appreciate the surrounding natural beauty. A modern sculpture by Valencian artist Andreu Alfaro stands near the bridge, commemorating the first Congress of Catalan Language and Literature. The bridge is also near the archaeological site of La Margineda, where settlements from the 12th to 14th centuries have been discovered.
