Serra da Leba, located on the boundary of the Huíla and Namibe provinces in Angola, is a geological marvel shaped over millions of years by tectonic activity and erosion. The mountain range stretches for approximately 20 kilometers, reaching an altitude of 1,800 meters. The Serra da Leba Pass, or EN280, is a highlight, featuring hairpin turns that traverse varying climate zones.The pass was built during the colonial period in the late 1960s and opened in the 1970s, designed to connect the coastal city of Namibe with the inland highlands. The road is known for its steep gradients, reaching up to 34% in some sections, and requires careful navigation. The pass is not only a feat of engineering but also a cultural landmark, appearing on the back of the Angolan 2000 Kwanza banknote.Visitors to Serra da Leba can enjoy hiking trails, bird watching, and exploring local culture in nearby towns and villages.
