If driving from English Harbour, follow the signs towards Shirley Heights. Continue past Shirley Heights, and you'll find Dow's Hill Interpretation Centre a short distance further along the same road. Parking is available on-site. Parking is free. Be aware that the road is narrow and winding in places.

Overview

Dow's Hill Interpretation Centre, situated in the scenic region of Piccadilly, provides an unparalleled vantage point to absorb the rich history and natural beauty of Antigua. Once part of Archibald Dow's estate, the hill was acquired in 1789 for fortifications to protect the dockyard from land attacks. The Centre showcases Antigua's story through engaging exhibits and a multimedia presentation, covering the island's Amerindian heritage, its time as a British military base, the impact of sugar plantations and slavery, and the struggle for independence. The museum is housed in a restored 18th-century structure, retaining original stonework that adds historical authenticity. Visitors can enjoy a 15-minute multimedia show in an air-conditioned theater, step out onto the viewing platform for panoramic views of English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard National Park, explore nearby ruins, and browse the gift shop and café. The Centre is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, offering ample time for exploration and learning.
