The trail begins a little up the road from Freeman's Bay, opposite the tradesman's entrance to The Inn at English Harbour. It leads through a forest, with some sections requiring scrambling over boulders in a dry creek bed. Eventually, you'll reach a dam; at the end of the dam, take a right to continue along the trail through the forest. Keep an eye out for white paint markings on rocks or around trees to guide you.Along the way, the trail passes through an old cemetery, adding a historical layer to the natural surroundings. Further along, you'll encounter a brick sluice way and sediment trap, remnants of the old barracks. The hike provides a shady and cool environment, making it perfect for a later morning start.
