Plaza Lavalle: A Tranquil Oasis in Buenos Aires

Plaza Lavalle, nestled in the heart of Buenos Aires, is a three-block park offering a tranquil retreat from the city's vibrant energy. Located in the San Nicolás neighborhood, this green space is framed by notable architectural landmarks, including the world-renowned Teatro Colón, the elegant Supreme Court (Palacio de Justicia), and the historic Teatro Nacional Cervantes. The plaza's history dates back to the 18th century when the area was an undeveloped space with a lagoon. In 1822, it was transformed into an artillery park before becoming the public square it is today. The park is named after Juan Lavalle, a hero of the War of Independence, and a monument in his honor stands in the central block. Each of the three blocks within Plaza Lavalle offers a unique experience. The southern block is home to the Supreme Court and several law bookshops. The central block features the monument to Juan Lavalle and old trees, some of which are over a century old. The northern block is located in front of the Cervantes National Theatre and the Templo Libertad, Argentina's oldest synagogue.
