The Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays, located in the heart of Buenos Aires' Palermo neighborhood, offers a tranquil escape from the city's frenetic pace. Inaugurated in 1898 and designed by French landscape architect Carlos Thays, who shaped many of the city's green spaces, the garden spans 7 hectares and houses a diverse collection of approximately 6,000 plant species. The garden is organized into themed sections, including Roman, French, and Oriental gardens, showcasing different landscaping styles. Five greenhouses display collections of subtropical species. Visitors can explore a variety of plants and trees native to Argentina and other regions, as well as admire sculptures and an English-style house that hosts art exhibitions and workshops. The garden also has historical significance. Carlos Thays himself resided within the grounds between 1892 and 1898. The site was once home to a gunpowder store. Today, the Jardín Botánico serves as a place for relaxation, education, and appreciation of the natural world.
