Discover more about Buenos Aires Ecoparque

Located in the Palermo neighborhood, the Buenos Aires Ecoparque is a unique ecological space that evolved from the city's former zoological garden. Inaugurated in 1888, the zoo operated for over a century before being transformed into the Ecoparque in 2016. This transformation reflects a commitment to animal welfare, environmental stewardship, and biodiversity. The 18-hectare park features native plants, walking trails, and architectural relics from its zoo days. Many of the original zoo's 42 buildings, showcasing diverse styles from Hindu to Moorish, have been declared National Historic Monuments. Today, the Ecoparque serves as a sanctuary for native species and a center for environmental education. Visitors can encounter mammals like capybaras and guanacos, as well as native birds such as flamingos and rheas. The park also participates in conservation programs, working to reintroduce threatened species into their natural habitats. The Ecoparque provides a blend of recreation and education, inviting visitors to learn about Argentina's biodiversity while enjoying a green space in the city.
