The Plazoleta del Respeto a los Pueblos Originarios is located at the intersection of San Carlos and Avenida Mitre in Azul, Argentina. Inaugurated on August 28, 2007, the plaza was created through the efforts of students and teachers from Escuela Nº 62, who petitioned the local government to establish a space that would recognize and celebrate the presence and history of the region's original inhabitants. The plaza aims to serve as a symbolic meeting point between cultures, embodying the spirit of "Azul, Pampa and Cervantine City." The plaza's design incorporates several significant elements. A central stone monolith features a bust of Cacique Cipriano Catriel, a leader of the local Pampa indigenous group. The monument is surrounded by cobblestone pillars that create a virtual space of containment. The gaze of Catriel's bust meets that of the Quixote sculpture located in the adjacent plaza, further emphasizing the theme of cultural encounter. The plaza also includes stones brought from Sierras Bayas, which once belonged to Catriel's "ruca" (house), and araucaria trees, which are native to the region. At the foot of the monument, the outline of the Partido de Azul is etched into the ground, along with the Callvú Leovú stream, symbolizing the connection between the land and its indigenous people. The plaza also features special lighting to enhance the visual impact of the monument and pillars at night. In November 2019, a mural was inaugurated in the plaza, commemorating the anniversary of Cacique Catriel's death. Created by artist Martín Meza, the mural depicts the four elements of nature, time, and other symbols associated with ancestral traditions.
