Plaza Uruguaya: A Historic Oasis in Asunción

Later, it served as military barracks under Dr. José Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia. In 1885, the plaza was renamed to honor Uruguay's support and friendship, particularly their act of returning war trophies and forgiving Paraguay's war debt after the devastating Paraguayan War. This renaming symbolized a strengthened bond between the two nations.
