Discover more about Parque Andino Juncal

Parque Andino Juncal, a protected private area since 1911, spans 13,796 hectares in the Aconcagua Valley, showcasing the majestic Andes. The Kenrick Lyon family has dedicated itself to preserving this ecological treasure, making it a model for conservation and sustainable tourism. The park's boundaries stretch from the Juncal River to the Argentine border, encompassing diverse altitudes from 2,200 to over 5,000 meters above sea level. The park's diverse ecosystems include about 24 glaciers, wetlands, and pristine water sources, making it a critical habitat for a wide array of species. In 2010, it was recognized as a Ramsar site, highlighting its international importance as a wetland. Visitors can explore the Juncal Glacier, the largest in Central Chile, and hike trails that wind through valleys, alongside streams, and through unique high-altitude wetlands. The park is home to at least 45 species of birds, 68 species of flora, 10 species of mammals, five species of reptiles, and two species of amphibians. A remarkable 93% of the flora and 98% of the fauna are native, with seven and five species being endemic, respectively. The park's conservation efforts have led to a resurgence in wildlife, including guanacos and an increase in vegetation density in the wetlands. Visitors can also witness remnants of the Transandine Railway, a historic engineering feat that connected Los Andes and Mendoza. The park offers hiking trails for all skill levels, from easy walks to more challenging treks. Designated camping areas are available for overnight stays, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the park's serene environment.
