Estadio Malvinas Argentinas: A Monument to Mendoza's Sporting Passion

Experience the passion of Argentinian sports at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, a historic stadium in Mendoza's scenic Parque San Martín.

4.6

Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, originally named Estadio Ciudad de Mendoza, was built for the 1978 FIFA World Cup. Construction began in 1976, and the stadium opened on May 14, 1978. It hosted six World Cup matches that year and was later renamed in 1982 to honor Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas in Spanish). The stadium has undergone renovations, including a significant upgrade for the 2011 Copa América. Today, it continues to host major sporting events, including football and rugby matches, as well as concerts and cultural events. The stadium is home to local football club Godoy Cruz for some of their Primera División matches. Located at the foot of the Andes Mountains within Parque General San Martín, about 3 kilometers from downtown Mendoza, the stadium offers impressive views and is surrounded by green spaces. Its design takes advantage of the natural landscape, creating a unique setting for sports and entertainment.
