Vicente López Ecological Preserve, Pampas Travel Guide

The Vicente López Ecological Preserve, located in the La Lucila neighborhood of Buenos Aires Province, offers a tranquil escape from the urban environment. This nearly 3-hectare reserve, bordering the Río de la Plata, serves as an important center for environmental education, conservation, and scientific research.Established in 1983 by naturalist Ricardo Barbetti, the preserve showcases a rich variety of native plant and animal life. Visitors can explore trails that wind through the area, crossing wooden walkways and bridges, and stopping at viewpoints that offer scenic views of the lagoon, the river, and the Buenos Aires skyline. The preserve is home to 387 plant species, including native species like the ombú, coronillo, and white carob, as well as 150 species of birds, making it a haven for birdwatchers.The preserve also features a small museum and a visitor center, providing additional information about the local ecosystem. The artificial lagoon, approximately 2 meters deep, becomes covered with aquatic vegetation in the warmer months, creating a beautiful green carpet on the water's surface.
