The History Museum of the North, located in the city of Salta, is housed within a beautifully restored 18th-century government building, the best preserved Cabildo in the country. The museum is considered one of Argentina's most important museums, chronicling the nation's history from its indigenous roots through the colonial era. The museum features nine exhibition rooms across two floors, showcasing a diverse collection of artifacts and documents. Visitors can explore themes ranging from archeology to sacred art. Exhibits include pre-Hispanic stone idols, Inca funeral urns, and colonial-era paintings. The Sala Capitular displays chained armchairs with Portuguese-Brazilian influence.
