Discover more about Percy Hill Park

Percy Hill Park, nestled in Yerba Buena, Tucumán, is a unique nature preserve that offers visitors a serene encounter with the region's native Yungas forest. This 2-hectare park, a fragment of the lower montane forest, holds a rich history, initially forming part of the 'El Manantial' sugar mill established in 1884. Known then as 'Monte de las Cocinas' (Cooking Mount), it served as a resting place for workers and their families during harvest seasons. In 1939, Percival Hill, son of the previous owner, took over the sugar company. After the mill's closure, the land was subdivided, but this area was conserved. In 1970, fulfilling Percival's wish, his heirs donated the land to Yerba Buena, transforming it into a community space for recreation and research. After a period of neglect, the park was revitalized in 2013 through collaborative efforts involving ProYungas, the Rotary Club, and the local municipality. Today, Percy Hill Park stands as a testament to preservation, showcasing diverse plant species and serving as a refuge for over 80 bird species. Visitors can explore walking trails, discover the old water well used by the mill workers, and appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of this natural haven. The park provides a refreshing contrast to the urban surroundings, offering a connection to Tucumán's natural heritage.
