Veterans Oasis Park: A Desert Escape

Veterans Oasis Park, nestled in southeast Chandler, Arizona, is a vibrant 113-acre park offering a peaceful retreat from city life. Opened in 2008, the park was designed as a joint project between the City of Chandler and the Salt River Project, with the goal of providing a recreational and educational resource for the community. Built on what was once a cattle ranch, it now serves as a sanctuary for diverse Sonoran Desert flora and fauna. The park's centerpiece is a five-acre community fishing lake, regularly stocked with fish such as catfish, trout, and bass. Visitors can enjoy fishing from the bank with a valid Arizona fishing license, or even use canoes and kayaks with a boating permit. Surrounding the lake are 4.5 miles of groomed dirt trails and a paved path, perfect for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Beyond recreation, Veterans Oasis Park offers educational opportunities through the Chandler Nature Center, which hosts exhibits and programs focused on birdwatching, water conservation, and local wildlife. The park also features a unique Solar System Walk, a 2,500-foot path with monuments representing the sun, planets, and celestial objects placed at scaled distances.
