    From the center of Flagstaff, head to the nearest bus stop. You can take the Mountain Line bus route 10 towards 'McMillan Mesa.' The bus ride will take approximately 25 minutes. Get off at the stop labeled 'Fort Tuthill County Park.' Once you disembark, head southeast on Fort Tuthill Loop until you reach the main entrance of the park. From there, follow the signs for Lava River Cave, which is about a 2-mile walk north along the forest road.

    If you prefer to bike, rent a bicycle from a local shop in Flagstaff. Start at the intersection of Route 66 and Milton Road. Head south on Milton Road, then turn left onto East Butler Avenue.
