Getting There

  • Shuttle Bus

    To reach Powell Point, take the free Hermit Road (Red) Route shuttle bus from the Grand Canyon Village. This shuttle is the primary means of access to Hermit Road between March 1st and November 30th. From the Village, board the Red Route shuttle at any designated stop and disembark at the Powell Point stop. The shuttle runs frequently, with service every 10-15 minutes during peak hours. No tickets are required as the service is included with your park entrance fee. A Grand Canyon National Park Vehicle Permit costs $35.

  • Walking

    If you are already at the South Rim, you can walk to Powell Point along the Rim Trail. From Grand Canyon Village, follow the paved Rim Trail west for approximately 2 miles to reach Powell Point. The walk offers scenic views and passes by other viewpoints such as Maricopa Point. The trail is mostly level and accessible, making for an easy and enjoyable walk.

Powell Point is a scenic overlook on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, dedicated to Major John Wesley Powell, a geologist and explorer who led groundbreaking expeditions down the Colorado River in 1869 and 1872. The point provides visitors with nearly 360-degree, unobstructed views of the Grand Canyon landscape, including the Bright Angel Trail switchbacks and the lodges on the South Rim. From this vantage, one can also observe remnants of the old Orphan Uranium Mine Superfund Cleanup Site.
