Getting There

Shuttle Bus
To reach The Abyss from Grand Canyon Village, take the free Hermit Road Shuttle (Red Route). This shuttle is mandatory from March through November. Board the shuttle at the Hermit Road Transfer Station, near the Bright Angel Trailhead. The shuttle runs frequently, with service every 10-15 minutes during peak hours. The Abyss is one of the stops along the route. No tickets are required. Check the NPS website for the current schedule.

Walking
From Grand Canyon Village, follow the Rim Trail west towards Hermit's Rest. The Abyss is approximately 6 miles from the village. The mostly paved trail offers stunning views along the way. The walk is relatively easy, but can be long, so bring water and wear comfortable shoes. You can combine walking with the Hermit Road Shuttle, hopping on and off as desired.
