The idea Museum, located in downtown Mesa, Arizona, is a vibrant hub for children and families to explore the world through art, science, and imagination. Originally founded in 1980 as the Arizona Museum for Youth, it was the first children's museum in the United States with a focus on fine art. In 2014, the museum was renamed the i.d.e.a. Museum, an acronym for Imagination, Design, Experience, and Art, to reflect its expanding mission. In 2024, the museum refreshed its brand to the simplified idea Museum. The museum offers a range of hands-on exhibits and activities designed to engage young minds and encourage creative thinking. The Whiteman Family Exhibition Gallery hosts rotating art exhibitions, often incorporating STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) concepts. These exhibitions feature local, national, and international artists, providing diverse perspectives and cultural experiences. ArtVille is a dedicated space for early learners, offering a town-like setting built from art supplies to inspire the youngest visitors. The HUB Gallery is designed for full-body movement and collaborative creation. The idea Museum is owned and operated by the City of Mesa and supported by the idea Museum Foundation.
